The Comparative and Interdisciplinary Education Research Network (CIERN) brings international interdisciplinary and education researchers to work on topics relating to United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4): “Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.

SDG 4 holds an important place in the global goals agenda. Achieving education for all will help to achieve other SDGs, such as the eradication of poverty (SDG 1), achieving gender equality (SDG 5), ensuring good heath and wellbeing (SDG 3), reducing inequalities among countries (SDG 10), promoting sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth and decent work for all (SDG 8), building resilient infrastructure and fostering innovation (SDG 9) and promoting peaceful and inclusive societies (SDG 16).
